At Tishya, our Khadi cotton fabric is spun by hand, woven on a manual loom and coloured using natural dyes. We make garments that ask far less of the earth while directly supporting the artisans who craft them.

Our Khadi cotton is spun by hand on a traditional Charkha and woven on the handloom, carrying forward a textile tradition passed through generations.
A Charkha is a traditional hand spinning wheel used to turn cotton into yarn.
Impact
Handspinning and handweaving require very little industrial machine energy. More importantly, they keep a living craft in the hands of the people who depend on it.
Slight irregularities, known as slubs, are the signature of human hands. Every metre is quietly one of a kind.

The colour
Natural dyes, never synthetic
Synthetic dyes are a major part of the textile industry's environmental burden, with dyeing wastewater carrying dyes, chemicals and other pollutants into waterways. So, we chose another way, colouring our garments with natural dyes from ingredients such as pomegranate, madder, myrobalan and indigo.
Impact
We use no synthetic dyes, helping reduce the release of synthetic colourants and their associated chemicals into wastewater and waterways.

The fibre
Nothing synthetic
Our fabrics contain no polyester, elastane or nylon. Most performance yoga wear relies heavily on synthetic fibres derived from fossil resources, designed to stretch, compress and sculpt. They can trap heat and feel restrictive when you're trying to open. We choose natural cotton for a different kind of movement: breathable, soft and unrestricted.
Impact
Natural fibre breathes with your body as its temperature changes.
Synthetic clothing can shed microplastic fibres during washing, sending them into wastewater and waterways. We choose natural cotton instead, keeping plastic fibres out of our waterways and giving the material a more natural end of life.
The people
Where craft creates opportunity
Khadi begins with human hands: spun and woven by skilled artisans in rural communities, carrying a tradition passed through generations.
Impact
Our work helps create continued demand for their craft and supports livelihoods close to home. Around 70 to 80% of the Khadi cotton artisans in the community we source from are women. For many, this work provides income, greater independence and the ability to support their families while preserving skills passed through generations.
