Frequently asked questions

What makes Tishya different from conventional activewear?

Most activewear is polyester, nylon and elastane. These are plastics, and they shed synthetic fibres into water with every wash.

Tishya is cotton. Handspun, handwoven Khadi, coloured with plants. Nothing plastic against your skin, and nothing plastic going down the drain.

It is also cut loose rather than engineered to compress, so the cloth moves with you.

What is Khadi, and why does Tishya use it?

Khadi is cotton spun by hand on a wheel and woven by hand on a loom. No power, no mill. One of India's oldest living textile traditions, and still a livelihood for weaving communities across the country.

It breathes openly, softens with every wash, and improves with age in a way engineered fabric never does.

More on our Khadi Cotton page.

What kind of practice are these made for?

Hatha, Yin, restorative, meditation and slow flow. Anything with long holds, floor work and a measured pace.

You notice it most in seated and reclined postures, where nothing grips at the waist or behind the knee.

For heated rooms and vigorous flow, a lighter technical fabric will serve you better.

How do Tishya garments fit, and how do I choose my size?

Take your usual size. Tishya is cut relaxed, with room built into the silhouette rather than stretch built into the cloth.

Between two sizes, choose the larger. The cloth does not stretch, so the extra room helps.

Measurements are on every product page, and we are happy to help if you write to us.

Why might my Tishya garment have variations in texture, weave, or colour?

Because it was made by hand.

Handspun yarn shifts in thickness, so the weave carries small slubs. Plant dye takes differently to every batch, so tone varies between pieces. Colour softens over years of wear.

No two are alike. That is the point.

How should I care for my Tishya garment?

Wash cold, alone for the first few washes, then with similar colours. Dry flat in shade. Press low.

Store away from direct sunlight, fold loosely, and change the fold line from time to time.

Do that and it will last you years.
